1917 MANCHESTER DIRECTORY

COMMENTS and REMINISCENCES

Chuck Gelletly writes: In your photo [of a page from the 1917 directory listing Newsdealers] I was surprised to see Murphy Brothers (991 Main St.) listed as a newsdealer. It makes sense, though, since at that time meals were not being served. In later years my father or someone else from the restaurant would walk to Metter's Smoke Shop, a little north of Murphy's, to get a copy of the newspaper. I remember the proprietor (Mr. Metter?) from the 1940's.
